چکیده

Following the relative success of mixed models in Large Eddy Simulation complex turbulent flow configurations, an alternative formulation is suggested here which incorporates concept a local subgrid activity sensor. The general idea to combine advantages structural (superior alignment properties), usually scale similarity type, and functional stability), eddy viscosity while avoiding their disadvantages. However, key question mathematical realization this combination, work accounts for level underresolution flow. justification evaluation newly proposed model based on priori posteriori analysis homogeneous isotropic turbulence laminar–turbulent transition Taylor–Green vortex, respectively. shows robust accurate behavior cases investigated. In particular, it outperforms separate base as well simulation without explicit subgrid-scale model.

Diierent dynamic subgrid scale models, viz. the dynamic model of Germano et al. are evaluated by means of a priori tests. Direct numerical simulation data for fully-developed turbulent and transitional incompressible ows are used. Low correlation is obtained between exact and modeled subgrid scale stresses with the DSM. Conversely, good agreement is found for both the DMM and the DTM, since tho...

Application of dynamic subgrid-scale concepts from large-eddy simulation to modeling landscape evolution

[1] Landscapes share important similarities with turbulence: both systems exhibit scale invariance (self-similarity) over a wide range of scales, and their behavior can be described using comparable dynamic equations. In particular, modified versions of the KardarParisi-Zhang (KPZ) equation (a low-dimensional analog to the Navier-Stokes equations) have been shown to capture important features o...

Modeling dilute sediment suspension using large-eddy simulation with a dynamic mixed model

Transport of suspended sediment in high Reynolds number channel flows Re=O 600 000 is simulated using large-eddy simulation along with a dynamic-mixed model DMM . Because the modeled sediment concentration is low and the bulk Stokes’ number Stb is small during the simulation, the sediment concentration is calculated through the use of the Eulerian approach. In order to employ the DMM for the su...
